Orange County Business & Partnership Mediation
A dispute never gets smaller because you waited.
You already know this one. A problem between two people doesn’t hold still. It grows, quietly, until it’s the only thing in the room. So the question was never whether to deal with your business or partnership dispute. It’s whether you deal with it in private, on your terms, or in a public courtroom on someone else’s. Dyadic Mediation is the first one: two neutral mediators, one table, a confidential way out. It’s voluntary, and it usually costs far less than litigation.

Small things left alone don’t stay small
You’ve watched this happen somewhere before, so you already believe it. A drip you ignore becomes the stain on the ceiling. A hairline crack you walk past becomes the split down the wall. Nothing that’s broken between two people has ever fixed itself by being left alone, and your situation won’t be the first exception in history.
The emails got shorter. The meetings got colder. Somebody stopped saying good morning. None of that is the problem. That’s the drip. The problem is underneath it, and right now it’s still running. You don’t need anyone to confirm that for you. You can feel it at two in the morning, when the house is quiet and your mind won’t be.
The moment you hand it to a stranger, it stops being yours
Here’s another one you can’t really argue with: the second you give a decision to someone else, you stop controlling how it ends. A lawsuit does exactly that. You hand your business, your relationship, and your calendar to a judge who meets you for the first time on the worst day of your year, and then you pay by the hour to wait on a stranger’s schedule. Every filing becomes part of a record anyone can read.
And waiting only runs one direction. Time doesn’t negotiate. Every week the dispute sits is a week more expensive and a week harder to undo, because that’s what unhandled things do. They compound. You already knew that before you read it here.
Two sets of eyes catch what one set misses
So what actually works? Start with something nobody disputes. A surgeon keeps a second person in the room. A cockpit carries two pilots. Important things get a second set of eyes, because one set, no matter how good, has a blind spot. A high-stakes dispute deserves the same standard, and almost never gets it.
That’s the dyadic model, and it’s the whole point. Two neutral mediators at one table. Warren reads the law and the leverage. Fred reads the people and the pressure. Both neutral, representing neither side, because every dispute is two problems wearing one face, a legal one and a human one, and you want both kinds of mind in the room.
And because this is a room you choose instead of one you’re ordered into, you keep everything the courtroom takes. The person who keeps control of the decision keeps control of the outcome, so the process stays voluntary and the pen stays in your hand. Nothing you say becomes a public filing. It’s confidential within the limits of the law. You decide, not a stranger in a robe. The math follows the same logic: skip the machinery of a lawsuit and you skip most of the cost. The exact figure depends on how complex it is and how many sessions it takes, and we’ll be straight about that on the call.
How it works
It’s a private, voluntary process and not a substitute for advice from your own attorney.

Two neutral mediators, one table, somewhere close to home in Orange County.
Who this is for
Co-founders who can’t agree on direction. Business partners staring at the same spreadsheet and seeing two different companies. Shareholders at odds over money, control, or an exit. Family businesses where the dispute at the table is really a dispute at the dinner table. If you’re an owner or a leader in Orange County, from Newport Beach and Irvine to Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, and San Juan Capistrano, and you need this handled privately and handled right, you’re who we built this for. We also travel for Los Angeles and San Diego matters when a dispute crosses the county line.
Who sits at the table with you
Warren Morten is a California attorney and the founder of The Morten Law Group in Irvine, with a career in corporate, partnership, and merger matters. In the room he’s the legal mind, the neutral who reads the law and the leverage. Fred Smith is a communications strategist and business operator, a United States Marine Corps combat veteran, who has spent decades in high-stakes rooms at the corporate level. In the room he’s the human mind, the neutral who reads the people and the pressure. Both act as neutral mediators. Neither represents a side.
The questions you’re already asking
What does it cost?
Less than a court fight, in nearly every case, for a reason you already know: the longer and more public a process runs, the more it costs. Mediation is shorter and it’s private, so it costs less. The exact number depends on how complex the dispute is and how many sessions it takes, and we’ll say it plainly on your consultation. What you won’t get here is a surprise. Nothing here is legal advice.
Is it legally binding?
A choice you make freely is a choice you’ll actually keep, which is exactly why the process stays voluntary and not binding. That’s what keeps you in control. If you reach an agreement and sign it, that settlement is generally enforceable as a contract. We’re neutral mediators, we don’t give legal advice, and we’ll always tell you to have your own attorney review anything you sign.
Is it actually private?
Anything said in a public courtroom belongs to the public. Anything said in mediation stays in the room, confidential within the limits of the law, and never becomes a public court filing. For partners, families, and owners who don’t want their business read by strangers in Santa Ana, that’s the entire point.
How soon can we start?
The best time to stop a leak is before the ceiling comes down. The first step is a short, private consultation. You can book it below or call us directly, and we move at the pace the situation needs.
You already know how the other version ends
There’s a version of this where nothing changes, and you already know how it ends, because you’re living the first chapter of it right now. You also know the one thing that ever changes a story is the first small step, the one that costs nothing to take back. This is that step. The first conversation is private and carries no obligation. Take it, and get your Monday mornings back.
